The Job Market: Is a College Degree Worth Less?

This article definitely hits home because in the field that I am going into, education, this is a huge problem. More and more students that are graduating with a bachelor's degree are finding out that it is not enough anymore so they must go for bigger and better things. But with bigger and better things comes more money. The cost of education is going up drastically every year as well as the "normal" standards for education. It is very common now for people to go to college, therefore everyone is at the same level and qualifications while trying to enter the field. I like the when the author states that the college degree is now "watered down." This means that the college degree is not as strong as a tool in the workforce as it was say thirty years ago. Young adults are now stuck in this debt because of all the extras that seem to be needed to be able to score a job in the field when they graduate.

Should More People Skip College?
In this article it talks about how when asking a just out of high school student if college is necessary they immeadiately say yes but is this really true anymore? They then talk about which professions actually need a college degree, they said two. I find this hard to believe in the fact that maybe you do not need a college degree to work there but they definitely would not hire you. College degree is simply a no brainer for kids these days, it is almost as if you do not go to college then you are looked at as not making the right choices. They also show a chart that shows that people who earn a degree, get paid more weekly which makes me believe that getting a degree is still the right choice. But all of these loans and payments made by parents are just adding more and more into the country's debt as a whole.

Plan B: Skip College

In this article, they discuss the option of not going to college. The one woman argues that the reason that she does not push her students away from college is because the school system does not really offer any other options. She said the alternatives to college such as vocationals were being eliminated more and more as the years went on. She even said she would push students to the non-college route if these options were still available. This is all because of budget cuts in schools. So many classes and programs are being taken away each year and leaving students with smaller and smaller opportunities.
